Woodward, Inc. was founded in 1870 in Loves Park, IL as the Woodward Governor Company after Amos Woodward invented and patented a better, faster, more efficient water wheel governor. Thirty years later, the company expanded when his son, Elmer, patented the first successful mechanical compensating governor for hydraulic turbines. In 1933, Woodward became more diversified by expanding its product line to include diesel engine controls. The company entered the Aerospace market in 1933 when Elmer Woodward invented the first successful variable-pitch aircraft propeller.
Woodward governors followed the rapid advancement of diesel engine applications for railroads, maritime and electrical generation in many fields. The advent of gas turbine engines for aircraft and industrial uses offered more opportunities for Woodward's fuel control systems. Today, almost all aircraft use Woodward products.

Woodward's DTSC-50 digital transfer switch controller is an economical controller for open-transition (break before make) ATS (automatic transfer switch) control for emergency stand-by applications with a single generator. When the DTSC-50 detects a utility failure, it commands the generator to start and transfers the load to the emergency source. The DTSC-50 performs an open-transition re-transfer when utility power is restored, allowing the engine to cool down before stopping. It can be utilized in 1Ph2W, 1Ph3W, 3Ph3W, and 3Ph4W systems.
The DTSC-50 displays voltage and frequency values for each phase, as well as engine hours, maintenance hours, and number of transfers. Active alarms are annunciated via the seven segment LED display. Separate LEDs show breaker status and source availability. Sealed soft-keys enable the user to start the generator and operate the transfer switch manually.
The DTSC-200A (Digital Transfer Switch Control) controls the transfer of electrical power from one source to another for hospitals, data centers, office buildings, manufacturing plants and similar where lights out is not an option. The extremely versatile DTSC-200A ATS controller is easily configured for a wide range of automatic transfer switch applications including Main-Gen, Gen-Gen or Main-Main systems using circuit breakers or latch-ing contactors. Source transfer can be performed as open, delayed, or closed transition with in-phase monitor-ing (synch check) that can be enabled for all transition types to ensure safe transfer. The closed transition over-lap time can be limited to less than 100ms for momentary, make-before-break transfers, or extended indefinitely for paralleling via discrete input. "Custom" features like transfer inhibit, source selection, load shed/restore, ele-vator pre-signal and engine test programs come standard.

Woodward's DSLC-2XT synchronizes and controls the generator loading for up to 32 three phase AC generators using the integrated (DSLC-2XT/MSLC-2XT) Ethernet communication network. The DSLC-2XT excels in either simple generator or complex generator system applications. The DSLC-2XT/MSLC-2XT combination provides multiple units, segment, utility, and intertie power management for complex power systems.
The DSLC-2XT control combines synchronizer, load sensor, load control, dead bus closing system, VAR, power factor and process control, all integrated into one powerful package. Applications allow up to 32 generators to be precisely paralleled and controlled. Ethernet network A provides dead bus closing, load sharing, and VAR sharing information between DSLC-2XT and MSLC-2XT units. Ethernet ports B/C provides customer remote control and monitoring capability using Modbus TCP allowing easy DCS and PLC interfacing. The Ethernet network provides each device the capability to monitor all other devices on the network. If the Ethernet network is compromised, an alarm is provided and the system can be transferred to a droop control mode.
Redundant load sharing is selectable using both Ethernet A and B networks for enhanced reliability. If one network is compromised, the system automatically switches to the second network. Slip frequency or phase matching automatic synchronizing with or without dead bus closing is selectable. Permissive mode provides synch check relay functionality.
The DSLC-2XT control senses true RMS power and provides soft bump-less loading and unloading functions. It can either base load or set import/export/process power levels against the utility, or accurately share loads on isolated, multiple generator systems.
VAR and power factor control flexibility allows you to either provide a set level of VARs to the utility or to maintain a constant power factor for reliable operation. The VAR/PF control also shares kVARs in an isolated system, maintaining proportional reactive loads (kVARs) on all machines more accurately than droop or cross-current voltage systems.
Features
Woodward's MSLC-2XT™ functions with the DSLC-2XT™ control to provide synchronization and load control across Utility and Intertie breakers. The MSLC-2XT/DSLC-2XT combination operates over an Ethernet communication network to control simple or complex generator system applications. This combination, 32 DSLC-2XT's and 16 MSLC-2XT's, provide multiple units, multiple segments, utility, and intertie power management for complex power systems. Controls plant wide Import / Export levels while always providing bump-less load transfers with utility.
The MSLC-2XT control combines synchronization, dead bus closing, utility/intertie load sensor, baseload control, import/export control, VAR, power factor, and a master process control in one powerful package.
The MSLC-2XT provides phase matching or slip frequency synchronization, with voltage matching, across a utility or intertie breaker. The MSLC-2XT/DSLC-2XT combination can handle multiple utility connections with a maximum of 8 bus segments in one application.
The MSLC-2XT's load sensor and load control sense true RMS power and provide a bump-less loading and unloading against a utility grid. Baseload, import/export, process, and utility unload modes control the KW power between different power sources at the same time controlling the reactive power, VAR and power factor. Reactive power is also ramped on and off for the smoothest load transactions between power grids.
The MSLC-2XT communicates via Ethernet, with or without hot swap redundant communication, to control real and reactive loading against the utility by DSLC-2XT equipped generators. The tie breaker mode allows synchronization between multiple generator systems. Segments are connected and power can be measured across an intertie, but no load control is functional when in Tie breaker operation.

Woodward's easYgen | exciter-10 (EX-10) module is a power electronics component designed to provide excitation current to the generator that is controlled by the Active Voltage Regulator (AVR) feature in the easYgen3400/3500XT genset controls.
The active voltage regulation concept intends to substitute a traditional voltage regulation configuration by simplifying the overall topology. The easYgen internal controller regulates generator output voltage by sending a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal to the excitation module. The excitation module controls generator excitation and therefore generator output voltage. This topology eliminates the redundant voltage and current sensing from a traditional voltage regulator and also makes a feedforward control architecture at AVR level simplifying the cascaded PID control topology. For power input, EX-10 interfaces with any of the following excitation systems: Self/Shunt Excitation, Auxiliary winding/AREP Excitation and Permanent Magnet (PMG) Excitation systems to make it a standard yet versatile solution.
The USB-UART Converter is used to connect a Woodward control or protection unit with a PC or laptop for configuration and monitoring purposes. The PC/laptop side is separated from the Woodward unit side through galvanic isolation. Part number 5417-1251 is dedicated for use with easYgen* family devices, while P/N WIC1PC3 is dedicated for use with WI family devices.
Two connection cables are delivered with the USB-UART Converter. Use standard 1.1 or 2.0 USB cable (P/N 5417-1262) for the connection between the PC/laptop and the USB-UART Converter. For the connection between the USB-UART Converter and the Woodward unit, use easYgen Standard Ethernet Cat5 cable 1:1 (P/N LR04144) or WI line dedicated cable (P/N 5417-1263), as appropriate. Maximum length for the EG cable must not exceed 0,5 m (0,5 m cable supplied with device). Maximum length for the WI cable must not exceed 1,5 m (1,5 m cable supplied with device).
An extension or utilization of different cable types for the connection between the Woodward unit and the USB-UART Converter may result in a malfunction of the unit. This may result in damage to system components. Woodward does not guarantee proper USB-UART Converter operation for cable length more than specified. If an extension of the data connection line is required, only the USB cable between the PC or laptop and USB-UART Converter may be extended. Woodward recommends using an industry standard cable for this. Maximum length for the USB cable must not exceed 5 m (1,8 m cable supplied with device)
